NCAF Committees

Following are descriptions of the duties of the NCA Foundation Committees. The make up of the Foundation Committees may include both members of the NCA Foundation Board and non-board members, as may be needed to support the Foundation’s goals and objectives.  Non-board members may include current donors, Regional Council members and past board members.  The Foundation Chairman serves as an ex officio member of all Foundation Committees but is not assigned to a specific committee, since as the chair of the board he is involved in raising funds from all sources to support the Foundation’s activities.

The principal role of the NCA Foundation Development Committee is to lead the board in efforts to attract funding for Foundation programs.  The Committees develop and oversee the implementation of the Foundation’s fundraising strategies and programs, both for annual operating funds and any capital campaigns.  The Development Committees will work closely with the Foundation’s Program Committee, to develop ideas for programs that might hold broad-based appeal to potential donors, as well as in finding ways to increase awareness of the NCA Foundation among donors.  It should be noted that all members of the NCA Foundation Board have the responsibility to do all they can to help raise funds and support the development activities described below in some way.  

  • Works with NCAF staff to establish and meet annual goals through fundraising efforts targeted to NCA member clubs and their representatives, including the annual fund appeals (generally in the spring and late fall) and dues renewal efforts.

  • Develops strategies to increase the number of individual donors each year and to upgrade existing donors to higher giving levels through personal contact by the subcommittee, other NCA Foundation board members and staff. Also oversees the donor recognition programs designed to recognize annual fund donors.

  • Solicits funding from annual fund donors to support Foundation programs by signing annual fund appeal letters and contacting either by telephone or in person current and prospective donors.

• Identifies potential major donors (both individuals and businesses) and develops strategies to cultivate their interest in the NCA Foundation. Works with staff on key prospects for the NCA/NCA Foundation Corporate Partner program.

• Develops strategies for pursuing major gift prospects to support the Foundation’s program and meet fundraising goals. Work with staff to implement special campaigns to raise major support for the Foundation.

• Solicits funding from major gift donors to support Foundation programs through personal solicitations.

• Assists staff in overseeing special donor recognition of corporate and major gift donors.

  • Works with the NCAF staff to identify grant prospects among allied organizations and their chapters and to provide background information to include with the grant requests.
  • Participates in follow up communications (letter, telephone calls, meetings) with allied organizations to support grant requests.

The Program Committee of the NCA Foundation is responsible for proposing ideas for programs to be funded by NCAF and making appropriate recommendations to the Foundation Board regarding priorities for funding.  The Committee will assist with an annual review process prior to the development of the annual operating budget for the Foundation by and may be asked to review funding proposals as needed from time to time.

The Finance Committee shall assist the Board of Directors in fulfilling its oversight responsibilities with respect to reviewing and monitoring Foundation revenues and expenses, establishing spending policies  consistent with the Foundation’s long term goals, and overseeing the investment of the Foundation’s assets in accord with the board-approved investment policy.
