I am not sure about you, but my favorite subject in grade school was recess, followed closely by physical education (which I learned quite firmly from my father-in-law who was the football coach and director of physical education at Cumberland Valley (Pa.) High School—it is not called gym.)

Little did I know that I could have picked a career that not only had the ability to have recess—but it was a standard practice—and really long recess at that. Yes, I am talking about our elected representatives and senators who began a five-week recess on July 28 and won’t be back to work in D.C., until September 5. But thankfully your association doesn’t subscribe to this type of recess and we are here for you. Here is what we have going on while we await Congress’ return.

We continue to experience unparalleled growth in membership. More and more private clubs and companies are realizing the value that NCA provides them and the industry and choosing to become engaged. You can see the list of new members this month in this issue of NCA CONNECT as well as the complete list of NCA club members on our website.

NCA also welcomed Troon as our newest Strategic Alliance Partner. We look forward to partnering with Troon, who will help us strengthen our advocacy and educational offerings and Troon will benefit NCA club members through sponsorships and educational initiatives across NCA’s many platforms and experiences.

NCA has created a new interactive Education Portal which will be the center for our popular series of expert-led webinars. This powerful new resource will allow you to easily:

  • Navigate and discover upcoming and past NCA webinar sessions.
  • Customize your NCA webinar experience to meet your specific needs and interests.
  • Organize and keep track of your current NCA webinar registrations and past sessions you've attended.

Be sure to sign up for our next webinar, and first one offered through the portal, Modern Membership Strategies: How Your Club Can Attract Millennial Members by Gabriel Aluisy, founder of The Private Club Agency, which will take place on Thursday, August 31 at 2:00 pm EDT.

When Congress returns to work after their recess, NCA we will be ready for them. NCA has partnered with the Club Managers Association of America (CMAA) for the industry’s inaugural joint Capitol Hill Day, a dual effort to create positive change in Congress for private clubs. On Friday, September 8, in conjunction with CMAA’s Legislative/Leadership Conference, participants will engage in a legislative update and then travel to Capitol Hill where we will meet with Congressional leaders to communicate the importance of the private club industry and its impact in their districts and states.

And even if we all don’t have the recess as a favorite subject in common, we all do like it when people say nice things about the work we do. I appreciate the nice write-ups from the New Jersey Club Managers Association and the Evergreen Chapter of CMAA about the 2017 National Club Conference. You can take a look at some of the moments from our Conference on our new National Club Conference photo gallery, which provides a convenient look back at the people, places and moments that have helped set our Conference apart as a can't-miss annual industry event.

Let us know what else we can do to help make your club more successful.

Warm Regards,
Henry Wallmeyer
